If you want peace and joy in your life, learn to think positively…
At the start of the cycle of Yugas, that is Sathya Yuga, all human beings were good. In the next cycle, that is Thretha Yuga (the Ramayana period), people from one part of the world were good and those in another part were bad – for example, Lord Rama from Ayodhya was good and Ravana from Sri Lanka was bad. In the next cycle of Yugas, that is Dwapara Yuga (the Mahabharata period), people in the same family were good as well as bad – for example, the Pandavas and the Kauravas. In the present Yuga, which is known as Kali Yuga, the same human being behaves well at times and badly at other times. The same mind has love and kindness sometimes and has hatred and anger at other times. Both good and bad are manifested in the mind. Whichever is fed by the concerned person, that thought, or emotion will dominate. The thought process of a person is what feeds the good or the bad in him.
All scriptures and saints repeatedly lay so much importance to the quality of thoughts in a human being. This is because our thoughts lead into actions, actions lead into tendency, tendency to habit, habit into character and character will lead to destiny. Thus, our behaviour is shaped by our thoughts.
This thought process is closely linked to our energy system. Energy flows where our thoughts and attention go. Everything in our Universe is energy including our thoughts. In that sense we human beings are also energy. So, it is very important to learn how energy flows from us and how it affects our lives.
For example, when you say, “I don’t want war”, you are giving your thought and attention to war and where you give your thought and attention, your energy will flow. The law of attraction will match your energy with that thought and bring it into your reality. So, instead of saying, “I don’t want war”, you should say “I want Peace.” Then your thought and attention is on peace, so you are giving your energy to peace and the law of attraction will match your energy with peace and hence, your life will be peaceful. This Universe thus works on your thoughts.
In the same way, try replacing your statements as follows:
Replace “I don’t want to fail” with “I want to Win.”
Replace “I don’t want to be fat” with “I want to be slim.”
Replace “I don’t want to have a stressed job” with “I want to have a happy and exciting job.”
Replace “I don’t want to fight with my husband” with “I want to have a happy relationship with my husband” and so on…
Our thoughts are very powerful because energy is transmitted through our thoughts. So, give utmost importance to your thoughts. If you think and speak about what you don’t want, you will attract what you don’t want! But if you stop talking and thinking about what you don’t want and change your vocabulary and only think and talk about what you want, then you will start attracting what you want, and what you don’t want will gradually vanish from your life.
Let us stop thinking and talking about things that we don’t want. Let us remove a few bad words from our dictionary… Changing our thought patterns will help us channelise our energy and our life will change accordingly. A positive thought process will bring peace and bliss into our life.
Mufti Menk, a cleric of Zimbabwe makes everything clear in the best possible way and he says, ‘Buffalos kill 7 people every year; Lions kill 500 people every year; Hippos kill 800 people every year; Spiders kill 5000 people every year; Scorpions kill 7000 people every year; Snakes kill 10000 people every year. And then, surprisingly, Mosquitoes kill 2.7 million people every year!’. Yes, the smallest are the deadliest! Small ‘sins’, hardly noticed by many, are the deadliest ones in your spiritual life.
These small sins spring from our negative thoughts; they go unnoticed and are even omitted by us. Sins of omission are just as deadly as sins of commission. Eradicate the negative thoughts before they become embedded in your mind. Remove them on a periodical basis. Gossiping and small lies, that come out of negative thought, are committed more frequently and are deadly. Mind those little compromises that you commit daily due to the negative thoughts. They are the ones that will bring about your downfall.
People with positive thoughts practice two things – smile and silence. A smile can solve problems, whereas silence can avoid problems. Sugar and salt may be mixed together but ants reject the salt and carry away only the sugar. Accordingly, the best way to inculcate positive thoughts is to be with the positive-minded people in life and make our lives better and sweeter.
Yes, the smallest are the deadliest! Small ‘sins’, hardly noticed by many, are the deadliest ones in your spiritual life.
So, then, how do we get rid of negative thoughts and inculcate positive thoughts?
Meditation helps us in driving away negative thoughts and bringing forth positive thoughts. Meditation drives away fear and anxiety and gives us calm and composure which help us to lead a peaceful life.
Laughter is the best medicine. Laugh as deeply as possible. If you cannot laugh naturally, at least do it as an exercise! Act as a laughing Buddha!
Always be in the company of positive-minded friends. They will focus your attention on a positive outlook to life. Develop a positive mental attitude. Whatever happens, happens only for the good.
Don’t find fault with yourself or others. That will never help in any way. Even if someone has committed wrong, think positively about how you can make it alright.
Lend a helping hand to the needy. The result of that action will make your thoughts positive.
Practice forgiveness and gratitude. They are the two divine ways of bringing peace and happiness to yourself. Both these practices will enhance your positive thoughts.
Read only the positive news in the newspaper and on WhatsApp. When you wake up in the morning, start your day with positive thoughts. The first thought that comes to your mind will shape the whole day. Hence, be careful about that first thought!
Make it a habit to switch off your mobile and do not check social media on a specified day every week. Spend that day with family and friends who are on the same wavelength as yours.
Spend at least 11 minutes in solitude daily. That is the time you invest for yourself. That is the time when your soul talks to you freely. Make it a habit to take that time for yourself.
In short, mind your thoughts and that will ensure that you live a good and peaceful life.
