What is the key to happiness? When was the last time you sat back and counted your blessings? Through a thought-provoking story, Mahatria helps you understand how you have already been blessed with abundance, much more than you could have asked for.
What is key to happiness, according to you? A question that has come from, through Instagram. Counting your blessings.
A mother and a child went to a bakery and the bakery was celebrating its anniversary. There were celebrations everywhere. And as the mother and the child, went there and the mother wanted to buy something and the shopkeeper told the little boy, “With both your hands take as much toffees as you want!”. Child said, “No, I don’t want.” The shopkeeper insisted. “Mom won’t say anything, it’s OK. Take as much as you want and take it with both your hands!” He said, “No, I don’t want.” Then the shopkeeper picked up the toffees with his own hands, put it into a brown envelope and gave, and the boy happily received it and they came out.
The moment they came out, the mother gently whacked the boy on the head and said, “Stupid fellow, I was so proud of you when you said you will not take it. Why did you take it when he gave it?” and the boy replied, “Mom, even before entering the shop, knowing that they were going through celebrations.
I had already decided if he asked me to take chocolates with my own hands, I’ll say no, because with my little hands only little will come. Only when he gives it with his big hands, enough will come and I was waiting for that.”. And the child is actually talking about the story of your life.
Much more than what with your little hands and with your limited mind you could have asked life, give me this, give me that. The hands of existence, the hands of God, the hands of life, by whatever way you want to call it, has given you so much in abundance. Just that it’s become a habit to us to keep on thinking about what we don’t have.
Even in the name of prayer, we keep begging. God give me this, God give me that! If only one mental shift can happen to all of us, if we can stop asking, “Why me, God, why me, God?” for all our troubles and start asking, “why me, God, why me, God?” for all our blessings…
Next twenty-one days, if every form of communication you have in the name of prayer is one of expression of gratitude, you will never have to ask this question again to me. In any situation, you can find something to be grateful for. In any situation, you can find someone to be grateful for. The very fact you woke up to the sunrise! Sweetheart, lot of people who went to sleep last night did not wake up to another morning.
The very fact you woke up to another sunrise is enough for you to be grateful the entire day today. Of the hundreds of questions that have been asked, that the very fact that my eyes fell on your question and hence it’s answering your question. The answer is for all, but the question is from you.
The rest of the day you can be grateful for! Of all the alternatives we had, with all the lockdown that is going on and this being a Sunday morning, that you and me are together in this journey of growth, you can be grateful for. Even with all the wealth, without gratitude, you are still poor.
Independent of how much you have, with gratitude you are the richest. The more and more you recognize how I feel has nothing to do with how much I have, or what I have. The more and more you recognize that the day your heart stops beating, lub dubb, lub dubb and starts beating, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you…
