The very thought that if I work more hours, I can achieve more, is stupidity. If ten crores have to become twenty crores, and you think instead of working for eight hours, I have to put in sixteen hours of effort, then for you to make it forty crores, what you will work for? Thirty-two hours, is it? The fundamental thought process has to be, whether I have to score four hundred and thirty-eight to win, or a hundred and twenty-eight to win, I have only fifty overs or twenty overs. The question is, how do I score more boundaries, than taking singles and doubles?
So, like that every entrepreneur has to first ask himself this question. How do I become super-efficient, super productive? How do I work for eight hours or ten hours, and create eighty hours of productivity? By building a capable team. How do I work for eight or ten hours, and create eight thousand hours of productivity, by creating a world-class organization? Because remember, you can be hundred times better than anybody in your team, but you can’t do the work of ten people, leave alone hundred people.
So you have to think in terms of empowerment, team development, delegation, systems, accountability, performance management, and you will have to demand from yourself, saying that, being a one-role wonder is an insult on being a human being. To have been blessed with a human life, and to look back at sixty or sixty-five, when you’re aged sixty or sixty-five, and feel that you’ve been a one-role wonder, and it’s come at the cost of all the other roles in your life, what’s the point?
You have to demand from yourself that you have to be a multi-role wonder. And roles take time. They demand time. Which means there has to be a balance in life. So there must be an end hour to work. There must be a beginning hour to work, and there must be multi-roles that you should excel in life. I’ll put it this way. All the success you produce without happiness in life, except you, everybody enjoys and benefits from your success. There is no happiness in your life. There is no completeness in your life, but you produce success.
Government will benefit, because of taxes. Employees will benefit, because of salaries. Customers will benefit, by the solutions you have provided. Suppliers will benefit, because they do business with you. Society will benefit. So, everybody benefits. Your family will benefit. So, you’re literally like a candle where, there is light everywhere, but darkness where you exist. Only the success that you produce with a sense of completeness, with happiness intact, you also enjoy the benefit of the success that you produce.
Then you are like a torch, where there’s not only light all around, but even where you are, there is no darkness. So, expect to be a multi-role wonder, and demand from yourself, leadership development, where you are able to develop all the leadership qualities. And starting this year, 2020, 2021, once all these virus issues settle down, the way I want you to measure your success is not only by your P&L and balance sheet.
Year on year, by continuing to put in forty hours, fifty hours, sixty hours per week, are you able to produce sixty hours, six hundred hours, six thousand hours, six million hours of productivity? And what sort of a leader are you growing into? If you can achieve that, you’ll be a multi-role wonder in life.
