Mahatria, how to build mental toughness?
Mental toughness is otherwise
called as natural confidence.
And confidence,
or this mental toughness,
if I have to stick to the phrase
that you have used,
grows only out of two things.
When I do the things
that I’ve never done before,
when I do the things,
which others, or myself,
have told,
‘I am not capable of doing it!’.
I’m repeating both.
When I do something
for the first time,
when I do something
which I’ve never done before, one,
two,
when I succeed in doing things,
which either I thought
I’m not capable of doing,
or the world told me
you’re not capable of doing…
that is when confidence grows!
By doing,
what you’re already capable of…,
confidence does not grow.
For example,
an extraordinary singer,
through another live show
is not going to grow in confidence,
because he already knows
he can do that.
Me doing another episode of teaching,
my confidence is not going to grow,
because this is what I’ve done
for last 29 years of my life.
But when I attempt something for the first time,
Orthere are things that I have convinced myself
I am not capable of doing.
For example,
I’ve convinced myself that 59 is not an age where
you can aspire for a flat tummy,
or a two-pack or
I have convinced myself it’s not possible.
If I go after that aspiration,
and if I succeed,
there will be a newfound confidence within me.
And that will be an…
I will raise the bar of my mental toughness.
There are things that I know I can do,
I can be on the yoga mat for an hour,
I can be on the yoga mat,
day after day after day,
every day as a Dinacharya
for one hour.
It’ll give me health;
but it’s not going to raise
the bar of my mental toughness.
Because I’m playing within the known.
You have to flirt with uncertainty!
You have to challenge the unknown!
With every stroke that I take
in the dimension of uncertainty,
with every initiative I take
outside my comfort zone,
every time I challenge
the unknown domains of life.
That is how I raise the bar of
my mental toughness
and that is how you grow in confidence.
Otherwise, you stagnate in your confidence.
You are the greatest of all the creation…
All limitations that exist,
exists only between your ears in your mind,
nowhere else.
So challenge yourself.
Do not limit your challenges.
Instead, challenge your limits.
And that’s when you will know how good you are.
And that is how you will discover what you’re capable of.
Keep growing.
Keep going.
Thank you.
