It’s April 1st, the beginning of a new financial year. And probably the quietest beginning to a new financial year in our generation. Sure enough, it is one of the toughest transition our generation will get to face. It’s neither business as usual, nor life as usual, we all slept to a world than we woke up to another world completely.
The size of the problem, we don’t know how big it is. And we don’t even know whether we have a solution yet. Everything is changed. From a time when I used to say touch is the language of love, didn’t expect the world to come around to a stage where not touching is considered love. Social isolation is considered a contribution.
We don’t know from where; the tomorrow is going to come. And under these circumstances, especially to the entrepreneurship community, where we hold the cross of financially taking this world forward in spite of everything that exist.
I still feel like wishing you an abundant year ahead. “But how Mahatria?” First and foremost, of all if the power of your mind and your emotional fortitude, that’s going to carry you forward and in turn help you to carry the rest of them forward.
In spite of all the negativity that surrounds, it’s life and death situation for some. Especially in some of the most advanced countries in the world, it’s financial survival for many. It’s absolutely no clue from where tomorrow will come for a lot of people.
How do I still sustain my emotional fortitude and hold on to a powerful mind? Because, this phase when it gets over, it’s going to introduce to the world, a new breed of leaders.
As the old cliché goes, adversity introduces man to a man. I think this entire phase is going to introduce a new breed of leaders to the world, and I want you to be one of those leaders. With helpless acceptance we have to go through this transition.
But after the transition is over, when the psyche of lot of people is going to be affected. A few of us with the strength of purpose, the powerful mind and steady emotions, have to herald further.
For example, that is this concept in corporate called FAQ, Free A Quarter. Lot of organisations, plan their expenditure for twelve months and income for nine months, thinking that even if there are going to be a few dull months.
Assuming three of this twelve months are not going to be the peak performance, how do we still generate enough income in nine months’ time, and I think now it’s applicable to all of us.
We need to think FAQ – Free A Quarter and see assuming things slowly begin back to roll in motion from June. And start doing much better from October. Maybe it will take a year or a year and a half to peak again.
And as when it happens, what can be our strategical thinking?
How do we do opportunity management?
How do we bring in optimum effective utilisation of resources?
How do we share this pain within the organisation, with the society?
The metaphor that I can think of is, like how when youngsters aspire to become an IAS or a charted accountant and sometimes the entire years preparation has a set back when they don’t clear the exam. They have to simply tell themselves; the hand of clock is reset itself by a year or six months.
And resiliently they have to focus on putting in the effort again and eventually when they triumph, this lost time will be forgotten into the success they experience in the future.
An athlete goes through four years of preparation and maybe does not win the medal in the Olympics or does not win the world cup. What do you do? The hand of clock is just been reset by four years and like that the hand of clock for lot of us may be has been reset by a quarter, or six months or maybe an entire financial year.
The years ahead like we have bounced back from the challenges of world war two, or Indian independence, or Tsunami, or financial crisis that we have faced in the past, we have bounced back from this.
But in this entire thing if the personality in you is broken, if the leader in you is shaken, if you start thinking like everybody else, you also get lost like everybody else. If there was ever a time to stand as a man above the crowd, as a woman above the crowd, this is the time.
If there was ever a time to beat the world with the quality of your thinking, with the steadfastness of your emotions, and the strength of your purpose, this is the time.
If there was ever a time to stay ahead of the crowd, this is the time. You are not alone in this journey, in whatever way I can play my part, I will play my part. Together, stand strong, stay strong will, be futuristic, and when this whole thing settles down, we will crawl again, we will take our tataka bataka steps again.
We’ll walk again, we’ll run again, we’ll sprint again. And on that side, we’ll have inspirational stories to tell the world how we have bounced back.
Utilise this entire time, to renew your business models, to relook at your strategies, and be ready for a new world that will be born. And be that new leader ready for a new world. Together, lets sail through this phase. I still want to wish you an abundant financial year.
